Match Results

Mixed results in the Bowls England team competitions yesterday as our Johns Trophy team and Middleton Cup teams were in action.

Our ladies after a good win in the prelim against the Isle of Wight travelled to Oxford City and County to take on Berkshire. Unfortunately they could not repeat the success of a few weeks ago and wend down 104-116

The men had a tough test as they made their way to Essex County Bowls Club to take on the reigning champions Kent the team that broke their hearts 12 months earlier in the quarter final at the very same venue.

A much changed team for Bucks since the last time the two teams met but after a rousing speech from the team captain on the day Gerry Smyth the boys had belief that they could go out on the green and cause an upset.

We got off to a great start and got into a lead early on which settled the nerves on the bank and showed the team we could do it. With a strong comeback from Kent the game was all square with 15 ends left overall. Both teams traded shots and the scoreboard swayed back and forth until Bucks got in to a 7 shot lead with only one rink left on the green with 3 ends left to play. Kent played a good end and picked up a 4 to make things a little bit more tense, but the Bucks boys bounced back on the 20th end and picked up a 2 so we were leading by 5 with only the last end to play. They closed the last end down superbly and never looked like dropping a count and picked up the last end to mean we had won the game and the celebrations began.

We now play Berkshire in the next round on Saturday 9th July at a venue to be confirmed.
