White Rose CHAMPIONS 2021

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

When we all start out in bowls we are told stories of Worthing / Leamington stories of success and stories of defeat. Winning a National Title is something we can only dream of but yesterday these young men lived that dream. A day they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Buckinghamshire qualified for the semi finals by beating Oxfordshire 39-25, Kent 48-28 and Sussex 42-16

In the semi final they were drawn against Gloucestershire, a very close game saw Bucks 1 down playing the last end but held their nerve to pick up the shots needed to make the final

On to the final we were against a strong Northamptonshire Team who won the trophy in 2018 and also made the final in 2019.

In the early stages of the game the scores were extremely close. 1 up at 8 ends, all square at 11 ends, all square at 13 ends before the lads produced a massive push to go 12 up at 15 ends!! As they entered the "Championship Ends" all they had to do was hold their nerve and the cup was theirs. With some excellent performances they pushed on and increased the lead to 15 up at 17 ends, Northants staged a mini come back and made the deficit 10 shots with 3 ends left overall. They managed the last couple of ends out before Northants conceded.

Richard Reid (Team Manager) - "So so proud of the boys and, over 2 games, it was rightly deserved. You all would have been so proud of them, in bowling ability and bowling etiquette. What a squad. The vocal support we had today was also immense, thank you everyone that was there to get us over the line"

Keith Hawes (Immediate past president) - "I have had the absolute pleasure in watching these lads over the years. As some outgrew through age we have had others that have come in and performed brilliantly. I had always thought we had the potential to win this competition and I could not be more proud of the way you conducted your self in obtaining your objective. A massive thanks to Richard for all your hard work and dedication. Michael Gomme you have some big boots to fill in taking over. But knowing you as I do you will do brilliantly. Thanks for making your past President so Proud. now to next year to defend our title."
